About Dental Insurance

How does dental insurance work?

Dental insurance can be confusing, but we’ll make it easy for you. Simply bring your card or claim into our office, or call to speak with our friendly insurance assistant. We’ll be happy to estimate what your insurance will cover and file your claim for you.

Can you provide me with a quote for services?

Although we can maintain computerized histories of payment by a given company, they do change; therefore, it is impossible to give you a guaranteed quote at the time of service. We estimate your portion based on the most up-to-date information we have, but it is ONLY AN ESTIMATE. If you would like to know your insurance benefit, we will be happy to file a “pre-treatment estimate” with you insurance company prior to treatment. Keep in mind, however, that this is not a guarantee of coverage. This does delay treatment but will give you a more exact estimate of the out-of-pocket figures you may require.

What does dental insurance cover?

For the most part, dental insurance covers preventive procedures, including annual X-rays, two cleanings and checkups per year, and fluoride treatments on children at 100 percent. Restorative care, such as fillings, crowns, replacement teeth, orthodontics, etc. are partially covered.

Is there anything not covered?

Cosmetic treatment is not covered. To help with this problem, we work with third party financing companies to make dentistry affordable for virtually all of our patients.

What is a "yearly maximum" limit?

Your “yearly maximum” is the amount your insurance company will pay in a benefit period (typically a benefit period is from January-December). Usually, the amount is $1000. If you do not use all of your yearly maximum before the end of your benefit period, you lose it. Each new benefit period, your maximum will return to the original amount.

How do I submit my bill to my insurance?

We will bill your insurance as a courtesy. If your insurance provider does not pay their estimated portion within 60 days, our office reserves the right to request payment in full for services from you and let you collect the insurance funds that are due to you. However, our insurance specialist will provide all paperwork, charts, X-rays, and photos necessary to optimize your benefits when we file your claim.

Does my work insurance cover dental?

Dental benefits are based upon a contract between your employer and insurance company. If you have questions regarding your dental benefits, please contact your employer or insurance company directly. Dental benefit plans will never pay for completion of your dental care; it is only meant to assist you. Please be prepared to pay any deductibles, co-payments, or deposits at the time services are rendered.
